Hotel Indigo Naperville Riverwalk Previews its Unique Neighborhood Experience

Naperville, IL–Guests and local residents alike will experience a uniquely local flavor when the Hotel Indigo Naperville Riverwalk opens later this fall at Water Street District in Downtown Naperville.  The 158-room boutique hotel reflects the history and culture of the Naperville community, as is the custom of Indigo hotels around the world.  Hotel Indigo properties are designed to invite guests into the neighborhood experience, with decor in rooms and public spaces combine with curated menu items and design details to provide an authentically local experience.  A vibrant modern color palette is complimented by historic references and lots of natural light, making for an inviting, stylish and refreshing atmosphere.

The Naperville Indigo offers historic touches throughout, reflecting the community’s farming heritage, Kroehler manufacturing history and local resources including the DuPage River, the limestone quarry and rough-hewn natural wood of the historic Plank Road.  Much of the design sensibility was derived from visits to Naper Settlement where the museum curatorial staff met with designers from Gettys Chicago, an award-winning global hospitality design firm.

“We have worked hard to create a sense of discovery throughout the hotel,” says Chris McDonough, AIA, Design Director for Gettys.  “Guests will be surprised by design elements that engage them throughout the public spaces and guest rooms alike.”

Natural stacked stone reminiscent of limestone used in several historic Naperville structures serves as the back lit backdrop for the Reception Desk. Dark unpolished grey tile can be seen in the lobby  flooring and double-hearth fireplace.  The blend of contemporary and traditional elements extends to a number of seating area throughout the lobby, including a reading nook designed with a treatment of real books.

Visitors to the Hotel Indigo’s Plank Bar and Kitchen will appreciate the various species of reclaimed wood on the handcrafted  bar, as well as the stone that graces the bar top.  “We are creating engaging art installations to serve as the backdrop to seating in the bar and lounge including an array of men’s hats through history.  Visuals are very much inspired by and tied to the community history, juxtaposed against the vibrancy of colors and textures that connote contemporary time and urban vibe.” McDonough says.

Broad plank flooring suggesting the Plank Road that carried travelers from Naperville to Chicago is featured in the pedestrian bridge that takes guests across Water Street to Elements, the banquet and events space and meeting rooms.  A stone wall treatment will greet guests arriving in the pre-function lobby, along with a glassed wine cellar wall.  Meeting rooms and banquet space will echo the juxtaposition of urban contemporary and rustic design detail found throughout the hotel.

Guest rooms and suites feature warm colors and bold visual elements to establish place, including custom murals inspired by Naperville history and spirit.  The headboard wall murals reflect abstract details of quarry stone, iron nail heads, carved wood furniture and spools of upholstery thread used at the Kroehler furniture factory, with pops of color in a welcoming palette.  Hall doors are treated with agrarian scenes, while a sliding barn-door in each room serves to close the bath or closet depending on its position. Balconies and floor-to -ceiling windows offer views of the Riverwalk.

The spa-inspired baths have an open feel and a clean palette, showcasing  cobalt blue vanities, full glass showers, back-lit illuminated mirrors and tile that is at once modern in shape and traditional in texture.  Case good furnishings feature stone tops, and guests will relax in luxury bedding that is a hallmark of Indigo.

“The design fully embraces the soul and spirit of Naperville in public areas and guest rooms that embody both the heritage and forward-thinking spirit that has always propelled Naperville forward,” says McDonough. “We have designed an experience that allows guests memories and moments throughout their stay, and to understand and enjoy the local neighborhood and all that it has to offer, from Naper Settlement and the historic downtown to the natural outdoor experience of the Riverwalk and  sophisticated shopping and dining.”

“We are the anti-cookie-cutter hotel experience, which is truly unique in a suburban hotel,” McDonough adds.  “People staying at the Hotel Indigo Naperville on the Riverwalk will come away with a true appreciation of the Naperville that is ingrained in her residents.”

The hotel offers a variety of room and suite options, including king and 2 queen bed rooms, Riverview and Terrace rooms and suites, some of which are configurable for a number of guests, making them perfect for business travelers, bridal parties, families and groups.  Guests will also enjoy the onsite fitness center, business center and market store offering a selection of local items, as well as covered parking directly accessible from the lobby.
